    Afternoon update:

    -U.S. immigration officers will soon be stationed at Narita airport. Starting in January, can expect them to start looking over your passport and accusing you of terrorism.

    American golfer Michelle Wie has donated 10 million yen to 10 child-care facilities and infant homes in Kochi Prefecture. A great PR move right before her appearance in a men’s competition being held there!

    -Prime Minister Shinzo Abe asked Denmark’s leader to keep an eye on China’s military spending yesterday. Denmark’s leader also met with the emperor and empress.

    -Tokyo is ‘mature’ and ready for the 2016 Olympics, according to the Yomiuri Shinbun.

    -The Japan Times discusses the issue of why the Japanese pronounce Korean/Chinese names written as Kanji so differently from the way they actually sound.

    An e-mail/internet outage for AU mobile phone users resulted in users being told that their mails could not be sent due to error code #110. Thousands of users responded by punching the numbers “110″ into their phone and dialing, resulting in thousands of calls to the police (110 is the official emegency number in much of Japan). Morons.

    -Newscaster Yamamoto Mona (30), who was forced to quit her news program in disgrace after it was discovered that she was having an affair with a married politician, is making a come back. Takeshi Kitano Kitano has hired her to appear on NTV’s New Year’s Day special “Owarai Ultra Quiz.”

    -Coming Anarchy comments on the nationalist arms race in NE Asia.
