Polling Japanese Students #5: Smokers in the family

For this edition of Polling Japanese Students, I asked 45 junior high school students whether they had smokers in their families. Here are the results:

Do you have a family member who smokes?

Those who said that they had one or more smokers in their family were asked to clarify:

Over half the students had fathers who smoked:

According to my results, a majority of the students had at least one family member who smoked cigarettes. As Japan is known as a country with a lot of smokers, I wasn’t very surprised with the results. According to the results, fathers seem to be the main smokers, with a sizable number of smoking mothers and grandparents as well. A few of the kids had older brothers who smoked, but none had sisters who smoked. Some of the kids I polled may have also been smokers themselves, but they could not admit so, since it would be admitting to underage smoking.

As always, I am looking for new questions to ask the kids and I am open to your suggestions. Please post some in the comments!

[I know I wrote in my last poll results post that the next edition would be the results of a geography quiz, but since it is taking some time to organize the results, I posted this instead. I am also busy compiling results to the following questions: 1) What do you want to be when you grow up/what is your dream?(submitted by tadashi/nightfish) 2) At what age do you want to get married? (submitted by nightfish)
and 3) What does your mother do (occupation)?]
