Child calligraphy master (video)
Here’s an interesting news report I recorded earlier this week (with English summary below):
Summary:

This is Takuya Takahashi. He may look like the average kid, but this 7 year old is actually a calligraphy master!

Here is an example of one of his works. It is the kanji for gate, and he has written it in some sort of fabulously interesting way.

He has been doing calligraphy since he was 2 years old. His mother, perhaps realizing the profit potentional of a child calligraphy master, first trained him to write hiragana and katakana and he is now able to write far more kanji than the average 7 year old kid. He uses an electronic dictionary to learn new kanji.

His unique style of calligraphy has gained quite a bit of attention, and a sake company had him write the name of their product for its bottles.

Takuya also made this calligraphy for a travel company.

At the time of the news report, his right hand was injured so he could not write with it, but he offered to write some fancy stuff with is left hand. They take him to Ueno Zoo so he can get some inspiration.

Here is the first calligraphy work he produced that day. It is the kanji for elephant, which has been drawn so that it looks like an elephant when you turn it on its side!

The second work he created: The kanji for bear, which apparently is drawn to look like a fast-running bear.
I don’t know much about calligraphy, but his works are pretty neat looking. Are there any calligraphy experts out there willing to post a comment about how much he sucks??
