Great site! Just quibbling, but I think you’re missing a zero in the dollar-denominated price you give for the gold calendar.

“Despite the fact that 900 African Americans fought in the battle of Iwo Jima, you won’t find any of them in Clint Eastwood’s new film.”
Of all the stupid controversies, this one is the worse. According to wikipedia almost 80 thousand marines fought in Iwo Jima. So, just over 1% were black. And, if i’m not mistaken, they were all away from the front lines!
So, would showing Black marines be a nice nod to the (undeniable) role that they played in Iwo Jima? Sure! Is it scandalous that they aren’t showned? I don’t think so.

You are in fact mistaken. Not only were many medical personnel who had to go to the frontlines to carry out their duties, but many of those black marines carrying out menial tasks were eventually pressed into frontline fighting anyway. The controversy may be “stupid”, but it’s not because blacks didn’t fight on Iwo Jima.
