British Internet watchdog: Japan is a source of child pornography

LONDON — Around 5% of the child pornography websites discovered by a British Internet watchdog over a 10-year period were hosted in Japan, investigators said Tuesday. The Internet Watch Foundation said it had found more than 31,000 websites worldwide containing illegal images of child abuse. Around 51% were hosted in the United States and 20% in Russia.
Sarah Robertson, IWF press officer, said that several Japanese networks were found to be unwittingly hosting noncommercial websites containing child porn. “The main problem is people sharing and swapping images via message boards. They are not necessarily Japanese children in the pictures, or Japanese people submitting the material,” she said.
It is highly doubtful that the British Internet watchdog had many staff members who can read/write languages other than English, so it’s not suprising that they found over half of their websites to be hosted in America. What’s actually suprising is that they were able to uncover Japanese sites. No doubt the global make-up of such websites is vastly different from the percentages based on what they could confirm, so their report isn’t very useful. Japan could have a much smaller share of the overall child porn market, or it could have a much larger one: what do you think? (Larger than 5%, anyone?)

“”The world law enforcement community will be watching this task force closely because Japan has become a worldwide center for online child pornography. This is largely due to the fact that Japan has no criminal laws against child pornography. Because Japanese obscenity laws require the display of pubic hair, which younger children do not have, the most heinous of all abuses of children exploits this loophole in Japanese law.
“The world’s child-pornography production and distribution industry has taken advantage of this loophole, putting its child pornography sites on Japanese servers. Though a recent report put the number of child pornography sites served from Japan at approximately 1,200, Cyberangels’s and SOC-UM’s Net Patrol teams, which search out child pornography sites around the world for law enforcement action, believe that number is much higher. More than a third of all child pornography sites they find are housed in Japan, and each site can have hundreds of images. (These are not the ‘teen sites’ advertised – most of the children are under 10 years old.)
“A recent television documentary and various news reports on CyberAngels have been aired on Japanese TV over the last month, as well as a series of newspapers articles written by a leading law-enforcement journalist in Japan. These reports have touched on how the global child pornography industry has abused Japanese hospitality. Tough child pornography laws are now being proposed there. Hopefully, the laws will be adopted and the Internet community will be able to count on Japan to join in the worldwide fight to stop the sexual abuse of children. We could use their help!”

The problem is that Japan does not support childrens rights. Pornography is not the only problem Japan has in relation to children.

My guess its its much much larger after seeing the way anime and porn is going in japan.
Office ladies used to be the hottest then highschool girls now its jnr high girls where will it end? Japanese guys need to keep aiming younger and younger to get “unthreatening” females…

Why would “Office ladies” be the “hottest”? It doesn’t make sense.
