Yan-san lives!

October 19th, 2006 by James

When I posted links to the entire set of Yan-san Japanese learning videos last week, I joked that whoever owns the copyright on them is probably long dead and buried. That might be the case, but one thing is for sure: Yan-san is alive…and he’s been posting comments on blogs!

Some factoids about Yan-san from the comments his posted:
-Yan-san is alive.
-Yan-san is an American named Nick
-Nick is married to a Japanese woman and their daughter was born shortly after the Yan series.
-Nick currently lives in Japan.
-Nick is in a band and plays the guitar and sings!

To read Yan-san’s comments, check out the JapaneseJapanese blog post about Yan-san!

That is pretty cool. I actually have all of the videos though *ahem* alternative means and didn’t even think about what Yan-san has been up to since them heh.

Nick, Let’s Learn Japanese has been invaluable in my learning of Japanese. It is one of very few video series that accurately explain Japanese grammer and demonstrate it though written and spoken Japanese at natural speed. The only other one I know of is NHK and it’s not as useful as LLJ. Without Yan-san I would not know nearly as much. Thank you!

Yan, I’m studying in a japanese language university in paris, and I must say that your are a god for all of us. Thanks for everything! I’m planning to make t shirts out of your character in that series. YAN SAN BANZAI!

I agree with Tim, I’m really enjoying the LLJ series. The skits with “Yan” are great fun and it’s really helping me with my Japanese. Thanks Nick for doing a great job.
