An elderly otaku (video)
Let’s face it: Japan is an aging country. With each new year, the number of old folks increases and the birth rate remains low. This particular TV program examines the life of one old man (summary of the video below):

Ever since he turned 70, Watanabe-san has stopped keeping track of his exact age. However, he’s not sitting around and waiting to die; he’s determined to live an active life. He is particularly interested in Akihabara and moe-related things, yet he has never visited the otaku mecca. The television program arranges for him to visit akihabara and hooks him up with a cute cosplayer girl as his guide.

His first stop on the tour is a massage parlor staffed by maids. Be careful girl, you might snap his brittle bones! After a moe-moe massage, Watanabe-san feels great, but he’s hungry!

Where do you go when you’re hungry in Akihabara? Well, I usually go to the KFC, but Watanabe-san goes to a maid cafe instead. He’s impressed by the beauty of the angel-like maids and enjoys a bowl of curry and a fancy desert.

No it’s time for Watanabe-san to achieve his dream: to transform himself through cosplay. He visits that big costume department store near the station and picks out the perfect costume:

Transformation complete! Rock on, Watanabe-san!!
