Seven-Eleven to cut prices

October 5th, 2006 by James

From Dow Jones Market Watch:

TOKYO (MarketWatch) — Seven-Eleven Japan Co. will lower prices for some 30 processed food items by an average 15% and a maximum 23% beginning next Monday, Kyodo News reported, citing company officials.

Japan’s largest convenience store chain operator, under the wing of Seven & I Holdings Co. (3382.TO), is trying to narrow the price differences as compared with products sold by supermarkets and other mass retailers, the officials said.

As a result of the mark-downs planned mainly for seasonings, one liter of Kikkoman Corp.’s koikuchi (rich taste) soy sauce will retail for Y258, down from Y308, while the prices for the mild and medium-hot varieties of BBQ sauce sold by Ebara Foods Industry Co. will come down to Y258 per 210 grams from Y334, according to Seven-Eleven.

It’s probably more expensive than the grocery store, but at least it will help you satisfy your 3AM BBQ sauce cravings.
