Mayumi, its not all that bad is it? I mean they showed footage of the brothers dancing. As most Japanese people know, black people are good at dancing, and dancing is a good thing, so this is kind of a positive portrayal of African immigrants do you not think?

I wonder if the two men knew they would be portrayed in such a racist, stereotypical way (how could they not if they live in Japan and have seen japanese tv) if so, why allow themselves to be subjected to that? Strange.

My girlfriend is japanese and could eat all that. Her stomach is like a bottomless pit or a gateway to another dimension. She eats 2x as much as I do, and stays skinny as a stick. I don’t know how she does it. I need to tell her about this restaurant, she loves curry and rice.

I meant it tongue in cheek really, but yes, I would imagine they are either freeters overstaying, or more likely not freeters at all but just saying so for the programme.
Getting a visa is painful enough WITH a job (and guarantor) to back you up.

If the tiny, dainty Japanese eaters can’t consume the restaurant’s huge portions, they’d better hope there are enough poor gaijin patrons around to keep them in business. :-p

If they are freeters, they probably are either A) overstaying another visa or B) have permanent residency/ visa from marrying a Japanese national. Japan doesn’t give work visas for “freeter” work.
