Aikido Master Video

Here’s a video of aikido master Kouzou Shioda in action:

Shioda was only 154 centimeters tall and weighted 45 kilograms(About 5 feet tall and 99 pounds), but he was supposedly a martial arts super man. This video has many scenes of him as an old man doing some impressive stuff. Of course, it could be fake.

There’s a similar video out there that praises Steven Seagal’s Aikido as well. However, it’s not as interesting as this scene from his classic film ‘Out For A Kill’.

Having had some Aikido moves used on me, I would suggest it most likely is real, if a tad stagey, here. Aikido is a ‘soft’ art, mostly involved with using your opponents momentum against them. That’s why you see him tossing them all around: he’s barely using any of his own energy, but just tripping or redirecting his attackers away from himself and letting their own momentum carry them. He isn’t so much throwing them as making them throw themselves in a different direction.

Yeah I did hapkido for a while which is the Korean version of Aikido (same kanji in the name) and its pretty amazing what the master could do. With minimal force he could throw me a few meters away even when i wasn’t using any force against him. Its about knowing the weight of the body and where that weight is and how to move that weight with as little effort as possible.
