Female otaku lifestyle videos (with English subtitles)
These two amazing videos come from Dark Diamond Network, one of my main sources for otaku-related news.
First, we have a profile of the Ikebukuro butler cafe Swallowtail, which is a haven for girls who want to be treated like princesses:
Next we have a profile of a secret underground female cosplay dance club, where girls put on costumes and dance around while lame male otaku with cameras take their pictures. Oh the attention-whoring glory:
The second video claims that the female otaku market generates more money than the male otaku market. I find this claim somewhat hard to believe. Sure, there are lots of queer fancy-looking anime boy dating sim games out there, but the amount of otaku merchandise geared towards girls seems pretty small compared to the vast amount of crap you see directed towards male otaku. I think they might be including female costume sales, which cross-dressing male otaku engage in, as a solely female consumer market.

Having just visited comiket in Tokyo Big Sight, I can surely say that the otaku market for girls is HUGE. Halls full of boy-love manga, drawn and bought by thousands upon thousands of girls. (The total number of visitors is 150.000 each day, and I wouldn’t be surprised if more than half of that is otaku girls).
