Coming this October: Cell phone number portability!
As Crisscross Japan reports, the pioneering mobile phone companies of Japan will be bring an amazing new service that has never before been implemented in the world to Japanese customers:
NTT DoCoMo, KDDI Corp and Vodafone KK have agreed to introduce a cell phone number portability system on Oct 24, officials of the three companies confirmed Monday.
The system will allow cell phone users to switch operators without changing their phone numbers. But users will have to change their mobile email addresses. The three firms have yet to agree on the size of commission fees.
Clearly been no reason for such a system to exist in Japan until now.
