Looking for Einstein’s Brain

Got an hour to spare? Why not spend it with Kenji Sugimoto, professor in Math and Science history at Kinki university, as he searches for Einstein’s brain? Somebody has upped teh 1994 documentary ‘Einstein’s Brain’ to YouTube for the world’s viewing pleasure.

The story of Einstein’s brain doesn’t seem to be the best thing about the documentary. Professor’s lack of social skills and less-than-stellar English ability are what really makes the story. Although his English is rather easy for me to understand, I suppose that many of the people he meets are not used to Japanese-style English, and are not expecting some Japanese guy to walk up to them as ask “Where is Einsteinbrains?” It’s somewhat comical to watch people nod their head and say “OK” to Sugimoto when they clearly do not understand him.

This man cannot understand Sugimoto, and asks him to submit his questions in writing. Sugimoto is saved by his assistant/translator, who can speak English. It is a wonderful moment in the history of intercultural communication.
