Nakamura: The Ultimate Idol Dork
Do you like Japanese bikini idols? If you do, you probably don’t like them as much as Mr. Nakamura does. He goes to hundreds of idol events in Tokyo each year, having his picture taken alongside the girls. He is well known throughout Akihabara as the ultimate idol otaku. Since dramas like Densha Otoko have made otaku a popular topic on TV these days, a news crew decided to do a story on Nakamura:
Nakamura is definately far from average 40 year-old Japanese guy. His yellow t-shirt and his weirdo cute poses make that clear enough. The video shows his typical routine of going to several events in a day and taking lots of pictures. That’s neat information, but I want to know where he gets all the money he spends on Idol-related products (the video claims he has spent over 20,000,000 yen on such goods: over $170,000)
If you see Mr. Nakamura walking down the street in Akihabara, I suggest you jump him and take his money. If you catch him on a Sunday morning he will probably be carrying a lot of cash with him.

my girlfriend says she met this guy a whole bunch of times.
i’ll see if i can find him and at least ask him where he gets his money.
it’s kind of interesting that the japanese news crew didn’t ask that.
though i guess it’s because they already knew the answer, same as i do.

scary. stomach-churning. jaw-dropping. real. Not sure whether to be more embarrassed for him or the poor girls who have to endure it all, in the name of a living. The mad rush to get a final shot in, the mortification of the handshake routine, the purchasing of multiple copies of the DVDs, the balls (only figuratively) to allow a camera crew along for the ride – so many lowlights. And the most sobering thought is, there are thousands more like him who will die alone in their one-room flat surrounded by used Kleenex and a billion yen’s-worth of unwatched soft porn.
Lives at home…? I think his parents disowned him 25 years ago. But hey – looking forward to that interview!!

This guy is great! I love the handshake routine… Haha!
The reason he buys multiple of the same dvd’s is because the events that he goes to have promotions were if you buy 2 dvd’s you can take pictures with the girls…
I still wonder how much the poor girls make doing these things! Seriously, they can be getting paid that much!
