Watch out, Kim Jong-Il! The Japanese have developed a USB-powered nuclear launch button!

The launch sequence translated into English: If you don’t follow the correct order, no super-dooper missile sound will play!

The launch button doubles as a 4-port USB hub and goes on sale later this month for 5250 yen ($45): see this page for more info and order one!

Edit: GeekStuff4U is now offering the launch button, for $61.33 + a hefty international shipping cost. Quite a mark-up…

Since it plugs in and acts as a USB hub, I wonder if it’s possible to make the computer recognize when you press the button. Like make it so you’re computer shuts down (or boots up) when you push the button. That would be awesome. I so want to order one but this month I’m rather broke. Perhaps next month.

I’m seriously considering the purchase of one. I know I could get a USB hub for 1/4 of the price, but damn, that button.
