Korean robot defeats evil Japanese invaders & saves Dokdo
Another propaganda video in the lame dispute over Dokdo/Takeshima has surfaced on the net. This particular video features a giant Korean robot smashing a fleet of Japanese boats that come to invade Dokdo:

Aside from the racist depiction of the Japanese (unclothed, toothless savages riding wooden boats), another thing about this video caught my attention:

This is Taekwon V, a Korean super hero robot. I’ve never seen Korean robot cartoons before, yet I somehow felt I had seen him before somewhere….

Oh wait, nevermind. I’m mistaken. I must have been thinking of Mazinger Z, a Japanese robot hero who was created a few years before Taekwon V’s first apperance in Korea(all a big coincidence, right?). It’s a good thing that Taekwon V is a 100% original Korean creation, or that video might be somewhat ironic.

When we – Some Japanese – talk about it, we can’t help laughing.
The animation contains robots of various Japanese works totally appears like a ROBOTECH.
It is a work talked to well at the time of topic about Korean plagiarism.
The producer said “The figures may resemble them closely, but it is not plagiarism because setting has originality.”

The interesting thing about this video is that, when I was in South Korea, it was played as propaganda before many of the movies in the theaters. I remember going to see Wallace & Gromit, and this was one of the ads beforehand.
Considering the lack of any copyright conventions in South Korea, the irony is completely lost on them.

Ohnoes, now everyone will see Mazinger as a symbol of racism, he’s become perverted like the Manji into the swastika by filthy nazi scum! Hey kankokujin, if you’re gonna make fun of a country that’s better than you culturally, you may wish to steal something from another culture next time to combat theirs. Or you could come up with something orig– oh nevermind, forgot who I was talking about. Banzai!

I’m a neophyte to the Japan probe website. To let you know, I am Kankokujin of Canadian citizen. I have met number of nice Japanese people in Toronto and feel facinated by the Japanese advancement in technology.
Many westerners and Asians alike are mesmerized by Japanese culture and their advancement in technology.
Japan is one of the country that I am intrigued with beside my immense interest for other things pertaining to the Jewish culture, history and the people and the middle-east conflict. I reserve respect for Japanese people on certain aspect and that Koreans could learn from.
Yea, I agree that it is a paradox and irony that the so called Taekwon V has such resemblance of the Japanese manga classic. Copy right law and plagerism are considered very seriously herein Canada where i live.
One thing i disagree with the preceding comment posted by Karasu-kun is that (Japan) is culturally better than Korea.
I do not claim that Korea’s culture is better either. One ought not to take mere vanity of superiority over others.
In the ancient past, Korea has given great influence to Japan in arts and crafts skill. Craftsmen from Korean peninsula had gone to Japan and taught Japanese.
Most of Japanese archiologists are cautious about the ancient royal cemetaries in Japan in as to not to dig out the places due to already known fact that many of the early leaders in Japan were from the nearby peninsula.
It is already known fact that many Japanese are kinsmen in blood with the koreans; many from the kroean peninsula had migrated to the island of Japan and stayed there permanently.
One thing i feel fascinated with is the both languages. Both Korean and Japanese are of Altaic & Uralic in origin linguistically. I have somethings to say about this objectively… but i will leave it at that and hope that you will find this email diplomatic and I have no intention to be found as being obnoxious. Thanks.

One thing: I also disagree with the insulting cartoon character of Japanese shown in South Korea.
