Japan sinks in the ocean

The Daily Yoimiuri has posted an English review of the film ‘Nihon Chinbotsu’ (‘Sinking of Japan’), a disaster flick that opened in theaters this weekend:
A scientist (Etsushi Toyokawa) finds evidence demonstrating that the nation will be hit by a series of earthquakes, tsunami and volcanic eruptions so severe that they will cause Japan to sink under the sea in less than a year. Not surprisingly, few people believe him. But among those few are the prime minister (Koji Ishizaka, whose hairstyle is apparently modeled after that of real-life Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi), and he begins to make preparations.
But X-day approaches quickly, and the nation falls into chaos. The only hope is the scientist, who has come up with a scheme to stop Japan from sinking, which may or may not work.
The plot might sound pretty lame, but who can turn down scenes of Japan’s major landmarks crumbling as they sink into the ocean? Here is the trailer for the film.
You might recognize some of the clips from an old Nova commercial I posted. Nova used scenes of Japan’s evacuation and destruction as a practical reason why Japanese people should study English. I’m not sure how successful that ad campaign was.[Story found on Ryuganji]
