Sumo KO’ed

July 14th, 2006 by James

Hello sumo lovers! Have you been enjoying the tournament going on in Nagoya this week? There have been some impressive matches so far, but nothing that compares to the coolness of this old sumo clip:

Kyokudouzan knocks out Kushimaumi

In this clip, Kyokudouzan, who was a pretty small wrestler, delivers a brutal slap to his opponents face. Kushimaumi, who is much bigger than Kyokudouzan, falls to the ground, knocked out by the powerful impact on his head.  The commentators express concern about Kushimaumi’s condition as he struggles to limp his way out of the ring. [Punching is illegal in sumo, but slapping is OK]

Kyokudouzan, who retired from sumo some years ago and spent a brief stint as a politician, now seems to be selling dietary supplements on his official website. His blog can be found here.
