World Cup suicide

June 26th, 2006 by James

So Japan got knocked out of the World Cup.  A lot of people were disappointed about it, but everyone seems to be over it.  Or so we thought…

Taipei, June 25: A Japanese man hanged himself in Taiwan today after the Asian Champions failed to secure a single victory in the World Cup, a report said.

The 60-year-old man identified as Yoshio Takanashi was found dead at the home of his Taiwanese wife`s parents in the city of Taichung, the Cable Televisin News Network Ettoday reported.

It said his wife told police that her husband had stopped watching television following Japan`s dismal performance in the competition. -Zeenews

So, did he kill himself because of the World Cup loss, or maybe he was just engaging in the unrelated Japanese pastime of suicide?

Oh well, it seems on a whole, the Japanese are taking things a lot better than Korea is

Wow, obviously someone was taking this stuff way too seriously! Please tell me there was more to this guy’s suicide than Japan’s poor performance at the World Cup!! (Well, that didn’t come out quite right…but you know what I mean.)

If only he could have focused more on the World Baseball Classic.

The article is not very clear. It says he killed himself after the game, but not because of the game. Seems like bullshit to me. He probably wanted to off himself for a long time.

I am glad Japan lost fast so I don’t have to suffer through any more news broadcasts with that terrible theme song by Orange Range.

Actually, they play that terrible song every time NHK covers a world cup game. They were playing it the other night during the Argentina game. It sucks, but my god, it is much better that the horrid song Fuji TV plays for world cup coverage. STOP THE SCREECHY VOICE, STOP IT.
