Beer Art
The Daily Yomiuri reports that the Asahi Beer Arts Foundation has funded an amazing new exhibition entitled ‘Floating Island on Water’ (水に浮かぶ島), by artist Yuken Teruya.
A window panel printed with a pattern of beer bubbles and a beer can that makes a dripping sound are some of the 16 items on display, all based on the theme of beer and water.
Asahi Beer Arts Foundation, which holds the exhibition every year to support young artists, suggested Teruya work on something related to beer.
His work was inspired by a tour of a beer factory and interviews with its workers.
“I felt disoriented at first because of the unusual theme,” Teruya said, “but ideas came to me as I communicated with people who were really serious about making good beer.”
The exhibition runs until July 18. The gallery is located on the first floor of the Sumida Ward Office. Admission is free.
Pictures of the exhibition can be found here and here.
