More news on Japanese painter Yoshihiko Wada

International news outlets, such as the BBC, are picking up the story of Yoshihiko Wada, the Japanese painter who seems to have copied many of his works from an Italian artist.

This report from Japan’s TBS, features video of Wada’s paintings morphing into the Italian artist’s paintings. It is quite interesting.

Here is a video report from NTV on Wada’s suspected plagiarism. It also contains some interesting footage of the similarities between certain paintings.
Things are not looking good for Mr. Wada.

Yesterday’s Yomiuri (5th) had a front page story about this in which they said the ‘artist’ admited to plagurizing the image and wanted to return his prize in a telephone interview. He said his way of creating art is “to borrow the composition (構図) and add things in his own personal way to make them his own.”
Sounds to me like “Japanization”, but it’s different when it comes to art and you really don’t change anything much at all.
The goverment is also looking into taking his prize back as well. (They [the goverment] probably won’t allow him to turn it over because they’ll want to say that they took it back.)
