Koizumi apologizes…kind of…

May 20th, 2006 by James

Japan’s Prime Minister, Junichiro Koizumi, likes to joke around. You have have read about his perverted jokes, but today I will share one of his cheesiest and lamest jokes.

Recently, during a PR appearance with members of Japan’s World Cup team, he was goofing around and said (in English) “I’m souri. I’m souri.” It sort of sounds like “I’m Sorry”, but “souri”(総理) is actually a Japanese word, meaning Prime Minister. What an amazing pun, mixing Japanese and English! It is so amazing that the elementary schoolers I teach English to keep repeating it over and over again: “I’m SOURI, I’m SOURI, I’m KOIZUMI SOURI, LOL LOL”. Hopefully they’ll forget about the joke soon.
