From Mainichi:

Teacher sacked for sending 921 e-mails to female student

YOKOHAMA — A teacher who sent 921 cell-phone messages to a female student over six months, including e-mails that said he loved her, has been sacked, local education officials said.

Fired by the Kanagawa Prefectural Board of Education was a 53-year-old teacher at a prefectural high school in Hiratsuka, Kanagawa Prefecture. His name has been withheld.

Education board officials said the teacher sent the messages to a second-year high school student using his cell phone between June 2004 and December that year. In 400 of the messages the educator showed affection toward the girl, saying things like “I love you” and “I want to see you.” Some of the messages were sent while the teacher was working.

The teacher’s actions were uncovered in December 2004, when the girl’s mother approached the principal of the school. Afterwards, the teacher reportedly sent a letter to the girl’s home, saying, “Let’s die together.” (Mainichi)
