Video: Panty theft countermeasures

March 7th, 2006 by James

Most Japanese hang their clothing outside to dry, but women usually hang their underwear indoors. Why? Because there are legions of perverts prowling the neighborhood in search of some panties to steal. Panty thieves are too lazy to search their neighborhood for hanging laundry can always hit up the local coin laundry and steal some underwear out of the machines there. It is such a major problem that cameras have been installed at coin laundry shops to deter theft.

Yesterday I was able to capture a segment on panty theft from a Japanese news program. Sadly, the beginning of the news segment, which shows men with blurred-out faces stealing underwear, is not included(it took some time to set up the video capture, sorry). But don’t worry, the main part of the segment is in the video file!

It seems that cameras are not enough. Some men wear sunglasses, hats, or other face-obstructing devices. Others realize that even if a coin laundry camera captures their face, it will be very difficult to find them. One store came up with the ultimate solution: a door that can only be opened via cellphone. If anyone wants to enter the coin laundry, they must dial a number on their cellphone. This new security system makes panty-theft impossible. So hurry up and steal panties from your local coin laundry, before they all install special doors!
